Govt asks officials to ensure proper storage of foodgrains

Gearing up for the effective implementation of Food Security Act State Government has issued directives to the district officials to solve the problems at the village level and ensure effective storage of food grains.

In its fresh directive Chief Security Jawed Usmani directed the officials to ensure effective implementation of Food Security Act, 2013 from July 5, 2014 and asked them to complete all formalities in time.

Incidentally, the Act under which the poor will get food grains on subsidized rates would be implemented in Uttar Pradesh after lok Sabha elections. The Congress had staged a series of demonstration in various parts of the state in November last demanding implementation of this Act. The Congress leaders had alleged that Samajwadi Party  Government had not implemented earlier because of political reasons.

The Samajwadi Party, however, has refused to be drawn  into this controversy. In a communication released on Wednesday he asked the District Magistrates to appoint Additional DMs as the 'Zila Shikayat Nivaran Adhikari' (District Complaint Redressal Officer) for disposal of complaints at district-level quickly.

Usmani further noted that the roles of Panchayats and Nagar Nigams should be fixed and a proposal should also be prepared for the purpose. The Chief Secretary further stressed upon the need for establishment of a committee headed by principal secretary, Food and Manure, for laying of rules for setting up State Food Commission in the state.
