This exactly happened in Uttar Pradesh when Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav spiked Governor Ram Naik’s proposal to celebrate January 24 as Uttar Pradesh Diwas. “He (Chief Minister) was just not interested in the proposal. But I will continue to highlight this as an individual. I will attend private functions highlighting this point,” Naik told reporters while completing six months in office on Wednesday.

Governor said that as United Province was re-named as Uttar Pradesh on January 24, 1950 he proposed this date should be celebrated as UP Diwas. Almost all the states have their formation days and name it as Diwas. “But my this idea was spiked,” disclosed Naik. It was probably first time Governor of Uttar Pradesh held an elaborate press conference on completion of six months in office. He issued 9-page press note comprising 30 points (his achievements). This stressed on his controversial statement o Ram Mandir to law and order and from power crisis to state of health of UP Universities.

He was nonchalant when he said he still sticks to his earlier statement that Ram Temple should be constructed at Ayodhya as this issue is related to the belief of people. He even said that law and order was bad and there is a scope of improvement. “I have a very good relationship with the Samajwadi Party government. I am regularly in touch with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and SP’s national president Mulayam Singh Yadav. Both of them have claimed that there is a scope of improvement in law and order situation,” he said.

He however, refused to comment on Godse temple issue. “This is a political issue. Hence, I cannot make any comment,” he said. Governor, indirectly hinted that he was averse to the ordinance route as he said that in last six months Government had sent 9 ordinances. He signed on seven and sent one back and held one on setting up of medical university in Greater Noida.

“This legislation does not have any urgency as the Bill is pending in the state Assembly since February 26, 2014,” he said. “The medical varsity, proposed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as Chancellor has also not taken prior permission from the Raj Bawan as it is a finance bill. This it is pending for a re-look,” he said.

Naik said he had also sought clarification from the UP government over the Ordinance to give Cabinet rank minister’s status to Chairman, Minority Commission. “Government is yet to give its reply on this issue,” he said.Governor, however, showed his annoyance over former ministers or legislators using India’s emblem in their letter head. “It is a criminal offence which can land them in jail for two years and Rs 5000 as fine,” he said.

Talking about lokayukta Governor said 20 matters were sent to the government with explanatory memorandum, of which 10 were returned with clarification.Commenting on the delay in joining of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Javed Usmani he said there is some technical fuss which would be solved soon. Earlier Naik had released a similar report after three months of his tenure.
