A leading surgeon of Gorakhpur, considered to be close to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, received a threat call from a man who identified himself as an inmate of Deoria district jail and demanded Rs 20 lakh as protection money from him.
As per reports, Dr S S Shahi is an eeminent surgeon and runs a private hospital in Gorakhpur. On June 28 and 29, Dr Shahi received calls on his mobile phone wherein the caller introduced himself as Ramashray Yadav, an inmate doing time at Deoria district jail. Yadav demanded Rs 20 lakh from him as protection money and threatened of dire consequences if he failed to pay up. Initially the surgeon thought it to be a prank and when thecall came on the second consecutive day, he approached senior police officers. SSP, Gorakhpur, RR Pandey said that an FIR has been registered in the matter and the complainant has beeen provided security cover by the police. He said that the matter was being probed thoroughly and the caller would be traced and nabbed soon.
