Close on the heels of throwing acid on a mother and her daughter just after they objected over molestation in Jaunpur, a minor girl was torched in lalitpur after her parents threatened two local youths of police action after they tried to kidnap and rape the victim on Friday morning.
A case was registered by the local police and both the accused were arrested. Reports said that 12-year-old Geeta (name changed) a resident of Patsamera hamlet of Kotwali area in lalitpur was harassed by two local youths identified as Rohit Thakur and Shiv Shankar. They intercepted Geeta on her way to school and tried to lure her to satisfy their lust. Few days back, when Geeta informed the development to her father, he threatened both the youths with dire consequences and said that he will report the matter to the police if they continued to harass his daughter.
The matter took an ugly turn when Geeta was going to her school on Friday morning. Both the accused intercepted and tried to pull her forcibly to rape her. When she raised alarm, both the accused poured kerosene over the victim and set her ablaze. The girl rushed towards village writhing in pain. Some villagers doused the fire and took her to District Hospital from where she was sent to Medical College in Jhansi. However she fought for her life till the night but later succumbed to her injuries. Her father lodged a report in this regard against both the accused after which raids were conducted and both were arrested on Saturday morning. Before she died, the victim gave her statement tomagistrate in the hospital.
Meanwhile in another bizarre case reported from Ambedkarnagar, a woman immolated herself along with her two minor daughters on Saturday morning. Reports said that one Kamlesh Yadav, was living with his wife Pratima (23) and two daughters Diksha (6) and Shiksha (5) at Kakharwa hamlet of Meharuwa in Ambedkarnagar. On early Saturday morning, Pratima poured kerosene over daughters and also doused herself and later set themselves on fire. All the three were burnt alive on the spot. Kamlesh claimed that Pratima was mentally sick for last few months hence she killed herself and her two daughters. A case was registered in this regard and bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Additional SP, Rajeev Malhotra who visited the spot claimed that they were looking into the matter just to confirm whether there is any foul play behind the death or not.
In another similar action, a 35-year-old widow killed her two minor children before committing suicide just due to family conflicts in Bijnore. According to reports from Bijnore, one Veerbala was looking after her 14-year-old daughter Priya and 6-year-old son Paras after death of her husband Dharam Singh Chauhan. For the last few months, Veerbala was very depressed after having regular family conflict with her in-laws who were not supporting her to look after the children. Finding it hard to look over children properly, Veerbala took an extreme step when she poisoned both her children to death on Saturday morning and later she hanged herself with the ceiling to end her life. The family members found all the three dead so they informed the police. A case was registered and bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigations are on in the matter.
