In a sensational case in Muzaffarnagar, a youth and his cousin killed a girl and later dumped the body into Gangnaher. The girl was killed after she objected to her sexual exploitation and asked the youth to marry her if he was in love with her.
The girl went missing on September 11, but the case was registered the next day. Police picked up both the accused who reportedly confessed to their crime. Efforts were on to trace the body.
The incident took place in Baseda village under Chhapar police station area. Sonia (18), a resident of the village, suddenly went missing from her house on September 11 afternoon. When she remained untraceable even after being searched for everywhere, her father Harishchand informed police on Monday. Sadar CO Yatendra Nagar said that on Monday afternoon Harishchand of Baseda informed them about the sudden disappearance of his daughter. Harishchand also said that his daughter used to talk to a neighbour, identified as Abhishek, and suspected foul play.
The cops rounded up Abhishek on Tuesday morning and grilled him. He initially denied familiarity with Sonia but later broke down. He claimed that on the fateful day, he called Sonia to his house who started pressuring him for marriage. “When I refused, she consumed some poisonous substance and turned unconscious. Fearing arrest, my cousin Gaurav and I dumped her into Gangnaher.
However, Sonia’s brother Rajneesh alleged that Abhishek and cousin raped and murdered Sonia and threw the body into the canal. It surfaced during interrogation that Abhishek was sexually exploiting and blackmailing the girl.
“Sonia asked Abhishek to stop meeting her and when he threatened to upload her objectionable pictures, she urged him for marriage. On Sunday, she threatened to inform police and Abhisekh, with the help of Gaurav, killed Sonia and later dumped the body into the canal,” he alleged. The police arrested both Abhishek and Gaurav and sent them to jail on Tuesday. Efforts were also on to fish out the body of Sonia from Gangnaher.
Meanwhile, a 48-year-old woman from Panipat in Haryana was allegedly raped by two youths in Shamli district, police said on Tuesday. Shamli SP Abhishek Kumar said that on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman’s family, a case had been registered against Mohan and Rahul.
While Mohan was arrested, Rahul was absconding, the police said. According to the police, Rahul had called the woman on Monday and told her that her two sons, who are lodged in jail, would be released on bail. The duo then allegedly raped and thrashed her and abandoned her in a jungle. Locals found the woman in an unconscious state. The victim was sent for medical examination while further probe was underway.
