Protesting an attack on her modesty proved fatal for a college girl in Ballia when the son of a pradhan backed by kin and friends hacked the victim to death in daylight on Tuesday. The assailants walked away from the scene with no one gathering to challenge them.

As per reports, Ragini Dubey of Majhauli Bajha hamlet of Bansdih area was pursuing Intermediate from a missionary college in Salempur area. For the last few days, the son of a gram pradhan had been teasing Ragini and tried to intercept her. The panicky girl informed her family members who protested with the pradhan and warned of lodging an FIR if the youth pestered her in future.
Upon learning of the warning of police action by the girl’s parents, the Pradhan’s son got agitated. On Tuesday, while Ragini was going to attend classes on her bicycle, he along with his cousin and some friends intercepted her. As the girl protested, they took out sharp-edged weapons and stabbed her to death in public view.
Shockingly as the bleeding girl screamed for help, none of the locals could muster enough courage to prevent the assailants from attacking her. A case was registered but no one was arrested by the police. Police force has been also deployed in the area to avert any flare up.
