An unidentified girl in Gorakhpur was murdered and her bullet-riddled body was found at a secluded place on Wednesday evening. While the police had registered a case in this connection and sent the body for autopsy, efforts were underway to ascertain the girl’s identity.
As per reports, a local spotted the body of a girl lying in a pool of blood in an orchard in Umriyaon hamlet of Gorakhpur on Wednesday evening. On being informed, SP North (Gorakhpur) Rohit Singh, along with local cops, reached the spot. It transpired that the girl had been shot five times on her temple, chest and stomach. Two live bullets and two empty shells were also found near her body. The police claimed that the victim might have been shot at some other place and later her body was dumped at the spot to conceal the crime.
Circumstances pointed to assailants being acquainted with the victim. The girl was sporting a pink T-shirt and a blue salwar. The police flashed messages to confirm whether any girl with similar features and clothing had been missing from neighbouring areas but their efforts failed to yield results so far.
Meanwhile, in Banda, embarrassed by a youth barging into her house while her family members were away, a 26-year-old woman committed suicide in a village under Dehat Kotwali police station area on Wednesday.
The miscreant later identified as Surendra Sharma lives in the victim’s neighbourhood. He barged into the woman’s house while she was alone. While fleeing, Sharma was nabbed by the woman’s brother, beaten up and handed over to the police. Soon after, a huge crowd gathered before the woman’s house prompting her to end her life by hanging herself in her room. A case was registered under section 306 IPC (abetment to suicide) and Sharma was arrested. A probe was ordered into the incident.
Elsewhere, in Shahjahanpur, a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 12-year-old boy at a village in Kalan police station area on Wednesday. The police said that the girl was playing outside her house when the accused lured her to his house and raped her. The girl was sent for medical examination and efforts were on to nab the accused, who was absconding.
