Police inaction in a molestation case led a 18-year-old Dalit girl ending her life in Basti. After learning of the girl’s death, the cops swung into action and took not more than a hour to get a case registered and arrest the prime accused.
The cops also registered a case against the local Gram Pradhan and two other persons alleging that they tried to resolve the matter hence they (cops) did not initially register the case. The girl’s body was sent for autopsy.
The Dalit girl resident of Matera hamlet of Kotwali city area went out for work and was molested and threatened with life by Ahmed Ali last Wednesday evening. The girl compalined to her family members who in turn reported it to the local police. However, the cops refused to register a case after which local pradhan Shafiq Ahmed convened a meeting and forced the girl’s father to work out a compromise or face dire consequence.
Fearing for his life, the victim’s father did not persist with the registration of a case. Emboldened by the inaction by the police, the accused continued to sexually harass the girl. When she complained to the cops, they instead shooed her and her parents away after which the girl slipped into a depression.
On Sunday, the victim committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room. The hapless father informed the police after which the cops arrested prime accused Ahmed Ali, and also named pradhan Shafiq Ahmed, Sunil Kumar and Atul, who forced the compromise. Efforts were now on to nab remaining the other accused, who are absconding.
Meanwhile in Shamli, a teenage girl was kidnapped and murdered, a minor girl was abducted and gangraped by four persons in Muzaffarnagar and a girl was gangraped in Kansganj.
In Shamli, a 20-year-old girl of Shapat hamlet of Kairana was kidnapped on Sunday afternoon. A complaint was lodged naming Kamlesh and five others in this connection. The matter took an ugly turn when the girl’s body was recovered from Yamuma river on Monday morning. The victum’s family alleged that the accused gangraped the victim before killing her and dumped the body in the river to conceal the crime. A case was registered and investigations are on.
Meanwhile in Muzaffarnagar, a 14-year-old girl was was abducted by four accused from Jansath overbridge on Saturday and later gangraped. The victim was later dumped on Pachenda Road afterwhich she informed her father. Two of the four accused have been identified as Mohit Sharma (23) and Ram Kumar (22). While the former was arrested, search is on for the others.
In the last case reported from Ganjdudwara police station of Kansganj, a 35-year-old woman alleged that she was returning from the market when Kalicharan Yadav and Sardar accosted her at Gaedka locality on Sunday evening. The accused pulled her inside a cane field and took turns with her. They set her free after handing out life threats. A case registered and efforts were underway to nab the accused.
