A girl ended her life allegedly after being sexually harassed in Rae Bareli late on Monday night. The family members alleged negligence on the part of local police in taking action against the accused, which forced the victim to end her life.
Reports said that Aanchal Maurya, who was a resident of Kotra Bahadurganj, had gone out of the village on Monday evening to attend nature’s call. On the way, she was intercepted by two local youths, who dragged the girl to a secluded place in a bid to rape her. However, as the girl raised an alarm, some local villagers rushed to her rescue and the accused fled the scene.
The girl returned home and narrated her ordeal to her family members. Her brother filed a case at the Unchahar police station and named the two accused.
According to the complainant, the police neither visited the spot nor took cognisance of the issue even as the accused threatened his sister.
He said that his sister was depressed and on late Monday night, she hanged herself to death in her room. She was found hanging early Tuesday morning. The police sent the body for autopsy even as the accused were still said to be at large.
