Failing to get any security or relief from the police, a 20-year-old girl, who was apparently upset over repeated eve-teasing by some youths, finally preferred to commit suicide just to save her modesty. She reportedly hanged herself in her residence at Charpan Khurd village in Belipar area of Gorakhpur.

The victim who was final year student of Bachelor of Arts, had recently qualified the preliminary exam of BSF and was preparing for the mains. Surprisingly, only on Monday when the local residents protested inaction of the cops, senior superintendent of police in Gorakhpour, Pradeep Yadav, immediately suspended the station officer, Brijesh Yadav, Sub Inspector lal Bahadur Sharma and two constables Rajiv Kumar and Vinay Kumar just to hush up the negligence of senior officers who all are well aware of the excesses of local goons.

Reports said that some youths identified as Vikram, Vinay Kumar, Satyendra, and Heeralal, all hailing from Charpan Khurd hamlet of Belipar were harassing a local girl and even tried to molest her when she was on her way to school. The girl had complained about the incident to Belipar police on last Friday following which two youths were taken into custody but were later released. The youths, on returning to the village, once again teased the girl and also threatened to outrage her modesty if she dared to raise her voice against their excesses. Finding no help from the cops, the girl just in fear of losing her modesty had preferred to commit suicide and had hanged herself on Sunday night.

Inspector General of Police (Gorakhpur Zone) Amitabh Yash said the matter was extremely sensitive and stern action will be taken against the guilty persons. An FIR has been filed against the above four persons of whom one has been arrested and efforts were on to nab the remaining three, he disclosed.

Meanwhile in Balia, students of local college went on rampage after local administration tried to end their protest, which was lodged against the hike in fees by the college administration. Reports said that students of local inter and degree colleges, who were protesting against fee hike for the last few days, had given a call of Balia bandh to pressurise the administration to intervene and solve their problem. However, on Mondaywhen the students get the shops forcibly closed, local administration used force on them to chase them away.

This further agitated the students who torched and damaged several vehicles including government bus and jeeps. The protesters also fought pitch battle with the police before being finally chased away by the cops who opened lathi charge, water cannons and also fired rubber bullets. Over two dozen injured in the clash from both side where admitted to local hospital. A case has been also registered against the trouble makers and so far over a dozen students were detained at the Kotwali Police station.
