The father of a teenage gang-rape victim was fatally knocked down by a speeding truck before the community health centre in Ghatampur on Wednesday morning, barely 24 hours after an FIR was registered in connection with the rape with the Sajeti police.
The agitated villagers staged a massive demonstration on Kanpur-Sagar highway and blocked the road. Senior police officers, led by Circle Officer Girish Kumar Singh, immediately rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers and restored normalcy after around five hours.
As the brother of the gang-rape victim had alleged that the accused, including the son of a police sub-inspector, had threatened him with dire consequences, the killing of his father in a road accident on Wednesday morning is suspected to be their revenge.
It may be recalled that a case for gang-rape with a 13-year-old girl after holding her hostage in a village in Sajeti police station area was lodged with the Pink Reporting Outpost against Dipu Yadav, son of a sub-inspector posted in Kannauj, and his accomplice Raj Kumar on Tuesday.
The victim's family had alleged that the brother of Dipu Yadav had threatened them with dire consequence if they dared to lodge an FIR. However, this threat was ignored by the police while registering a case.
Around 6 am on Wednesday, a speeding truck ran over the father of the gang-rape victim at Anupur crossing, killing him on the spot.
As the news of accident spread, hundreds of irate villagers reached the spot and staged a massive demonstration on the Kanpur-Sagar highway and blocked the road. The road block was lifted only after the senior officials somehow pacified the mob.
According to the gang-rape victim's kin, on Tuesday night, after medical examination of the girl in Kanpur, the police took her and her parents to Sajeti police station. Late in the night, the girl was taken to the Ghatampur CHC where the sub-inspector father of accused Dipu Yadav was also present.
They alleged that under the pressure of the sub-inspector, the father of the victim girl was pushed in front of a speeding a speeding truck leading to his death.
The kin alleged that when they were going to lodge the FIR with the Sajeti police on Tuesday, accused Dipu Yadav's brother Saurav Yadav had threatened them with dire consequences on the way.
The police have arrested the truck driver for quizzing.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said the father of the gang-rape victim was with the police during raid to nab the accused and he suddenly went out to have tea and was fatally knocked down by a truck.
According to the district magistrate, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin under the Krishak Durghatna Bima Yojana. Besides, talks are on to allot agricultural land to the family on lease.
Officials said after a transparent probe of both the incidents, the guilty would be punished. They could also be booked under the NSA.
