Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said the biggest achievement of the Bharatiya Janata Party government was the galloping inflation despite the ruling party’s claim of running a double-engine government at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh.
“The inflation curve is rising with each passing day and it is the result of the pro-capitalist policies of the Narendra Modi government. Economic inequality is rising as the wealth of business houses is growing while the income of the common man is falling,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
He added, “The BJP is out to harass every section of society and even children are not being spared as the facility of free rail travel for children up to five years has been withdrawn.”
Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the leader of opposition in UP Assembly, said the “prices of diesel, petrol and cooking gas were skyrocketing and goods and services tax (GST) had been imposed even on essential commodities like wheat flour, pulses, rice, edible oil, milk, curd and spices”.
The Samajwadi Party president charged that under the misrule of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, besides inflation, corruption was also flourishing in the state.
“There is no mechanism for the redressal of people’s grievances leading to deep resentment and disappointment among the people,” he added.
