Two children and two women were killed while three others were injured in a collision between a car and a tractor-trolley in Budaun district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
According to Civil Lines Station House Officer Gaurav Kumar Bishnoi, the car, driven by Pitamber, crashed into the tractor while returning from a wedding near the district’s Dahemi village.
Pitamber’s six-year-old son named Arnab lost his life in the accident. The deceased women were identified as Pitamber’s 60-year-old mother Surajshree and 25-year-old Shashi Yadav, while the other child was identified as Harsh (10).
The bodies were sent for autopsy and the injured persons were admitted to a district hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a labourer died while 12 others were injured when lightning struck in Porai Kala village of Jaunpur district on Saturday night.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Shahganj, Shailendra Kumar, said that the area received light showers, following which the labourers ran to take cover. It was during this that 13 labourers were struck by lightning.
Dasi (60), who was digging a pond, died on the spot.
Those injured were brought to the primary health centre, from where four labourers – Kiran, Sita, Kanhaiya and Kamla – were sent to the district hospital.
