Four held for circulating objectionable video against ex-BJP MLA Sangeet Som

Four persons were arrested by the police in connection with the circulation of an "indecent video" against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sangeet Som in Meerut.

Police said a team had been sent to Telangana to arrest a cloth vendor, said to be the main accused.

As per police, the accused, Atiqur, son of Irshad from Nahli village under Sardhana police station of Meerut, who works as a cloth hawker in Andhra Pradesh, is behind making a video against Som in which he used "indecent language against the BJP leader".

The Thakur community, to which Som belongs, reached Atiqur's residence in large numbers late Friday night and created a ruckus outside the house. They also pelted stones at the house of the accused before the local police and administrative officials reached the spot to defuse the tension.

The attack was preceded by a meeting of Thakurs who condemned the language used against the two-time BJP MLA.

The officials, including Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Satyaprakash Singh, Circle Officer of Sardhana RP Shahi, circle officers of Daurala and Sadar Dehat among others pacified the people by assuring action into the case.

Sardhana Inspector Laxman Verma said that Atiqur's father Irshad Mohammed, and three other residents of Nahali identified as Aas Mohammed, Chandru and Vaaju were allegedly involved in making the video viral and all four had been arrested.

Verma said Atiqur was the brain behind the video.

“We have traced the origin of the video to Telangana and found Atiqur Mohammed of Nahali village had scripted the content while his father and three others added more incendiary remarks against the former MLA before releasing it on social media platforms. This has led to tension between the communities in the village. We have deployed adequate police force at the village,” Verma said.
