Filing a complaint for the molestation of his daughters proved costly to a former corporator, as the accused stabbed him to death in broad daylight in Mohalla Sarai Sadak, Sirsi in Sambhal on Saturday.
A few days ago, the former ward No.14 corporator, Jamal Abbas, had filed a case against four youths of the locality for molesting his daughters. The police had sent two accused, Wafa Abbas and Rustum, to jail.
Based on the complaint of the deceased's wife, the police have registered a case of murder against four people. Police are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras. Some people have been detained for questioning.
The brutal killing, which took place a few steps away from the Sirsi police post in the Hazratnagar Garhi police station area, spread terror amongst the local residents.
Jamal Abbas’ wife, Naseem Zahra, said that the accused were pressuring them to withdraw the case. Around 10.30 am on Saturday, when Jamal and his elder daughter were alone at home, the accused, Ali Mohsin, Ali Jamil, Sahil and Danish, barged into the house and attacked him with a knife.
Hearing the screams, the daughter raised an alarm but the accused fled from the spot. Neighbours rushed Jamal to the district hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shrishchandra said that a case had been registered against the accused and efforts were on to nab them.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Bahraich for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl after sedating her, police said on Sunday. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said that the accused, Israr, was an acquaintance of the minor whom he allegedly raped on Friday.
An FIR was registered against Israr under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday and he was arrested a few hours later, the ASP said.
