Former chairman of  Co-op Bank arrested

In a surprise move, former chairman of Cooperative Bank, Ramdarash Vidhyarthi, was arrested by the Gorakhpur police on Saturday morning.

Reports said that the Barhalganj police in Gorakhpur arrested Vidhyarthi in connection with an old case registered under POCSO Act at the Cantonment police station.

He was accused of kidnapping a minor, keeping her captive and raping her and also for threatening the girl before releasing her from his clutches.

The case was registered only on the directions of the court.

Gorakhpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Gupta had handed over the probe to the circle officer of Gola and finally the cops took cognisance and went ahead with his arrest on Saturday morning.

Talking to a media person soon after his arrest, Vidhyarthi claimed that action was taken against him on the direction of a mafia running flesh trade in the district.

Later Vidhyarthi was shifted to Gola police station after his supporters gathered at the Barhalganj police station and staged a protest against his arrest.

He was later shifted to the Cantonment police station.

Vidhyarthi said that the conspiracy against him was not new and that earlier similar case was registered against him with the Barhalganj police but the charges were found to be fake in the inquiry after which the case was expunged. He said that now fresh move was made to tarnish his image.
