In two separate incidents, five persons lost their lives while seven others were severely injured when earth mound collapsed on them in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh On Sunday.
Police said that clay digging has been started in rural area to paint and repair the houses before Diwali festival. Some women and children of Yusufpur Bhagwanpur area, were digging clay near Kashiram colony suddenly that earth mound collapsed in which a woman and seven children got buried.
The police said Mamta (40), Savita (17), Sheru (10) and Sarvesh (10) died on the spot in the mishap while Sheetal, Kashish, Shivakanti suffered serious injuries and had been admitted to hospital. Some children are still trapped under the debris and are feared to be buried under debris. The work of excavation of mound and debris removal was underway.
In another incident Ruchi (12) of village Mahsaiyan, her sister and three more friends were digging the clay near their village, to paint their houses. Suddenly clay mound collapsed and all of them got buried under that. The locals tried to pull out them but till then Ruchi had been died. The injured had been admitted to hospital.
