The police have registered an FIR against 28 named persons in the Saturday’s violence in which a dalit was lynched to death by a mob and they later torched 22 houses of dalits at Dehli Mubarakpur village under Piparpur police station in Amethi.
Police said that the Muslims attacked the dalit village after some dalits caught hold of some Muslim youths after one Ramshanker, a BSP leader was shot at Saturday. later the Muslims torched 22 dalit houses and even lynched to death one Ramsharan. Most of the dalit families fled away from the village apprehending more violence. District Magistrate K Dhanalaxmi and Superintendent of Police Alankrita Singh are camping at the village while additional forces have been rushed to the spot. But police was yet to arrest any of the accused even as family members of the deceased Ramsharan refused to do the cremation till the arrest of the accused. Ram Shanker ,who was shot at was admitted to the hospital in lucknow.
Villagers disclosed that there was tension in the village for the past couple of days after the dalits beat up some Muslim youths over eve-teasing. Amethi is the parliamentary constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is expected to visit the area on Monday. Meanwhile district police today took district BJP president Karuna Shanker Dwivedi in custody when he along with some of his supporters tried to enter the village.
