A petty dispute over using a public hand-pump for bathing took a bloody turn in Bijnore, when one of the party brutally hacked a couple to death on Sunday evening. Reports said that Mohan Singh (48), a resident of Samasabad area of Kotwali in Bijnor, was filling his bucket from the public hand pump. His wife Deepa (45) was also present. The dispute occurred when another local villager identified as Surendra, came and threw the bucket and threatened the couple saying that first he will fill his bucket and also take bath, only after which they could use the hand pump. Surendra also hurled abuses on the couple.
Shocked and depressed with the incident and also fearing for their lives, the couple went to the local police station to lodge a complaint but the cops just took their application and refused to forward any help or registered the case. Due to this lethargic approach of the cops, when the couple were returning home, once again Surendra and his kin rounded them and shouting that how they dared to report the matter to the police against them, the accused attacked both with sharp edged weapons in which Mohan Singh died on the spot while Deepa, succumbed on her way to hospital. Reports said that after learning of the double murder, the local police took pain to visit the spot and registered the case. They sent both the bodies for post-mortem examination and on Monday, they also arrested Surendra but other accused were still absconding.
