Advocating name of Yakub Memon’s wife Rahin to nominate her for Rajya Sabha proved costly for Party’s Mumbai leader Mohammad Farooq Ghosi. He was removed from all posts by Party’s general secretary, Ram Gopal Yadav, reportedly on directions of the SP chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Saturday afternoon.
SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury, in a statement issued here on Saturday afternoon said there is no Party official by this name in Mumbai. “The party has nothing to do with this letter and don’t buy the demand of the person,” he stated. Choudhury said SP has nothing to do with the controversy. However, soon after Chowdhary’s statement, Ram Gopal Yadav issued another statement. He claimed that Farooq, was removed from all Party’s post and that the Samajwadi Party never supported such demands.
Meanwhile, UP BJP president laxmikant Bajpai demanded a clarification from SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav on the act of the party leader.
“Such act of the SP Mumbai’s leader is a clear cut anti-national act and supporting terrorism in the country,” Bajpai told reporters here while demanding action against the leader. The letter clearly shows that SP has no faith on the country’s judiciary and they are just indulged in vote-politics , he said while adding that these people should be punished. “I think Mulayam would not support such elements in his Party,” he opined.
Mohammed Farooq Ghosi, claimed himself as vice-president of Mumbai’s SP unit has written a letter to Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday urging him to induct Yakub Memon’s wife Rahin Memon in active politics and make her a Rajya Sabha MP. According to Farooq, the Memon family has undergone several hardships in life following the incident of 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. They are mourning the death of Yakub Memon who was hanged to death on July 30.
Ghosi also added that the family has become helpless after Yakub’s death and injustice was meted against them. Several family members of Yakub Memon were among the accused in the case and some of them were discharged due to lack of evidence. Yakub’s wife Rahin was also arrested along with her husband in the 1993 bomb blast case. She too faced charges of aiding and abetting terror acts, but was acquitted in September 2006 due to lack of evidence.
The letter addressing Mulayam Singh Yadav further reads that, “You are our leader and you are known to help the poor and needy persons. According to me, Rahin has become helpless and there are many women in the country who are living miserable lives like her. We have to come forward to help these women. Today, Muslims are considered as vote bank and they are being sidelined by the mainstream political parties. I hope that you will consider my request to support the Muslim community as you had already done earlier.”
