Farmers worst hit in UP: Akhilesh

Published on:

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that farmers in Uttar Pradesh were the worst hit, forcing them to commit suicide in the Bharatiya Janata Party rule in the state.

He said that corruption and mismanagement of the state government’s agencies along with natural calamities had aggravated the crisis in the agriculture sector.

The SP chief said the debts of farmers were mounting as drought, flood and power crisis had dealt a huge blow to the agricultural economy.

He said that contrary to the claims of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of all-round prosperity of farmers in the state, one farmer in Banda and another in Jhansi district had committed suicide as they were unable to repay their debts.

He said the BJP government had failed to discharge its duties towards farmers as the farmers suffering huge damages to the standing crops had not been given compensation by the government.

The SP chief said the power infrastructure, including power generation, transmission and distribution, was in a bad shape. “This is evident from the report of the Union Energy ministry released on July 27 which said that power supply to the farm sector was gradually decreasing and over 1,000 transformers blew out every day.
