Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati said at a joint rally of their alliance in Barabanki that farmers were suffering due to the faulty and anti-people policies of the saffron dispensations.
Addressing an election meeting in support of SP-BSP candidate Ram Sagar Rawat at Bhitriya area of Dariyabad assembly segment of Barabanki Lok Sabha seat, Akhilesh Yadav said that farmers were perturbed due to the false promises made by Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath governments.
“The agrarian crisis has deepened as farmers are not getting remunerative prices of their produce,” he said.
“These governments have even snatched the jobs of youths, first by enforcing demonetisation that led to shutting down of factories and companies and, second by imposing Goods and Services Tax due to which traders suffered setback,” he said.
The SP chief said that not only would the seat of ‘chowkidar’ be snatched, even Lucknow’s ;chowki’ would be gone, hinting that Yogi Adityanath would lose his chief ministership after polls.
“The BJP leaders say that the alliance of SP-BSP is mahamilaawati, but they have a tie-up with 38 parties yet for them it is not a ‘milaawat,” Yadav said.
Elaborating on his government’s projects, particularly the distribution of laptop among youths, Akhilesh said that the laptops his government gave were still functioning, but the cooking gas cylinders that the BJP government gave to people were lying idle in villages now.
The SP chief said that army and para-military jawans were being martyred due to the wrong policies of the BJP government.
“The BJP leaders say that a new India has to be created. We say, that a new prime minister is to be made as the old one has failed,” he said.
In her address, Mayawati pointed her barbs at the Congress saying that the farmers remained poor in its rule for over five decade.
“The Congress has ditched the people. Today farmers and the poor are suffering because of the Congress policies,” she said.
