Family attacked for objecting to harassment, 1 dies

Objecting to sexual harassment proved costly for a family in Bhadohi when a woman was killed and five other members of the family were injured after they were attacked with sticks by four persons on Tuesday night.

The family had earlier reported the matter to the police but the cops took no action and their inaction resulted in the tragedy.

As per reports, some persons used to hurl lewd comments at the daughters of Mudassir in Aurangabad village under Auraiyee police station of Bhadohi. At this, the aggrieved father  approached the police and filed a complaint but the law enforcers preferred to keep quiet and ignore the incident.

On Tuesday evening, the same rowdy group once again teased the girl, to which Mudassir vociferously objected. This led to a war of words.

Later, the group stormed Mudassir’s house and brutally beat up members of his family. The brazen attack left Mudassir’s wife Bilkis (45) with head injuries and five others with serious injuries.

While Bilkis succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning, the other members are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Varanasi.

A case has been registered against four accused. Two of them, identified as Nizam and his son Riyaz, have been arrested.
