Chief Secretary Anup Chandra Pandey has directed officials to expedite the construction of cow shelters (gaushalas) in each district with an estimated cost of Rs 1.20 crore. He has also directed them to ensure necessary action at district level to save crops by stray cattle.
The top official of Uttar Pradesh issued these directives while presiding over a meeting on construction of cow shelters, in Lucknow on Thursday.
He asked the district magistrates to form district-level committees for implementation of these orders.
“Farmers should be asked not to leave their animals in the village. Adequate arrangements of cattle fodder and drinking water be made in the cow shelters,” he said.
Principal Secretary (Animal Husbandry) Sudhir M Bogde and other officers attended the meeting.
