An elderly farmer was battered to death allegedly by local goons over some old dispute in Sitapur. Bankey, who hailed from Tikrazar hamlet of Imiliya Sultanpur in Sitapur, was having a land dispute with some local villagers for the past 25 years. On Wednesday evening, Bankey was working in the crusher when some local goons, identified as Manoj, Lavkush and their accomplices, reached there and caught hold of Bankey. They started attacking Bankey with sticks and rods. The victim cried for help and some local villagers rushed to his rescue, after which the miscreants let off Bankey and escaped.

The critically injured farmer was rushed to the local community health centre from where the doctors referred him for the district hospital. However, the doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Bankey’s son later denied having any land dispute with the goons who lynched his father late on Wednesday evening. He said they had a land dispute with some other local villagers and the matter was in final stages in the local court. The police registered a case in this connection and sent the body for autopsy.

They also formed teams to arrest the criminals. Besides, police were deployed in the village to avert any further clash.
