Security lapses during the visit of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda to Gorakhpur last Friday led to the suspension of eight cops in Gorakhpur.

Those suspended include crime branch Inspector Yadunandan Yadav, Inspector Ajay Kumar Rai posted at GIDA police station, constables Brajesh Kumar Yadav, Satyendra Kumar Yadav, Vivek Kumar Mishra, also posted at GIDA police station, constable Sujit Kumar Yadav posted at Tiwaripur police station and with female constables Arunima Mishra and Kiran Chaudhary posted at Cantonment police station.

Reports said that the duty of these cops was at the airport during the visit of Nadda.

On Friday, Nadda visited Gorakhpur for the inauguration of the newly-built regional office of the BJP. He had to get down at the airport and go to the circuit house by car. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went to the airport to receive him.

The chief minister’s fleet reached outside the airport around 11:28 am to 11:30 am on Friday. During this, the cops deployed in security allowed the movement of vehicles in the wrong direction due to which some vehicles came in front of the chief minister’s fleet. Besides, these cops also did not have wireless handsets with them so that they could be alerted in time.

The senior officers took the lapse seriously and placed all the eight cops on duty at the airport under suspension.

Meanwhile, during the Garib Kalyan public meeting also in Gorakhpur last Friday, there was a lapse in the security of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP president JP Nadda.

When the chief minister and Nadda were giving certificates to the beneficiaries, about 50 candidates of teacher recruitment exam started raising slogans by waving placards. These candidates had come from Prayagraj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Jaunpur, Rae Bareli and other places and had managed to reach the venue with placards despite tight security arrangements.

Later, to save the situation, the Khorabar police arrested the protesters, including Supriya Maurya, Rashmi Singh, Madhuri Pal, Satyendra Singh, Vishal Kasaudhan, Nirmal, Amarendra Singh and Vijay Pratap. They all were booked for trying to breach peace.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police of Gorakhpur, Dr Vipin Tada, also suspended medical college police outpost in-charge Praveen Kumar after he found him to be negligent in removing encroachments in the area.

Encroachments by auto-rickshaws, vehicles and roadside shops in front of BRD Medical College in Gulriha area obstruct traffic movement. On the instructions of the government, a drive to remove encroachments is going on. Despite this, medical college outpost in-charge Praveen Kumar Singh was not taking interest in removing encroachments on the roadside.

The SSP ordered a departmental inquiry after suspending the outpost in-charge with immediate effect on charges of disobeying government orders and negligence of duty.
