In a bid to provide proper medical treatment to critical Covid patients amid a massive surge in infections, the work on increasing the number of beds in hospitals has entered ‘mission mode’, under the supervision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
As per the CM’s instructions, there has been a lot of focus on augmenting the capacity in L2 and L3 hospitals across the state with additional one lakh beds.
An official communique released on Saturday evening confirmed that acknowledging the current corona crisis in the state, the CM instructed officials and concerned authorities to increase the number of ICU and HCU beds in all districts with immediate effect, so that no patient was deprived of complete medical aid.
There are 189 government hospitals and 150 CHCs in L-2 category while 20 hospitals of L-3 category are operational. Apart from this, a total of 465 private hospitals have been made dedicated Covid hospitals. In these 824 hospitals, the number of isolation beds is 60,934 while 17,760 beds have ICU and HCU facilities. The Yogi government’s action plan is to double the capacity of beds so that more and more Covid patients could get immediate treatment.
For this, L1 category hospitals will be upgraded to L2 by providing oxygen and ventilator facilities. There are a total of 1.16 lakh beds in L1 hospitals and the number of beds were being increased on a daily basis.
With the shortage of oxygen being effectively managed, it is expected that the task of increasing beds would be completed in the next 10 days. A secretary rank officer will supervise the entire process.
The chief minister has also instructed all government and private hospitals to make public the status of empty beds so that patients could be admitted on time.
