Election Commission of India (ECI) refused to probe allegations and counter-allegations made by Bahujan Samaj Party, President Mayawati, and ex-Rajya Sabha MP, Akhilesh Das.
Social activist, Dr Nutan Thakur, claimed that she had sent an email complaint on November 6 last, mentioning about Mayawati’s allegation that Das offered her Rs 100 crores for re-nomination to Rajya Sabha and Das’s counter-allegation that Mayawati regularly took money from Assembly and lok Sabha candidates.
Calling these allegations electoral offences under sections 171E and 171F IPC, she claimed to have requested the ECI to enquire the matter
and question Mayawati and Das on the issue. She said that the ECI should take necessary criminal and electoral legal actions against BSP
and the two.
Thakur said that to her complaint, the Election Commission said that it is for the aggrieved persons to move appropriate Court. It also said that the Commission cannot withdraw registration of a political party on complaints of violations of law or for violation of any undertaking given by it at the time of registration. Calling the Commission’s stand passive and detrimental, Dr Thakur said she shall be challenging it soon before the High Court.
