The Election Commission of India spared Director General of Police Javeed Ahmed and Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar despite receiving complaints against them from Opposition parties. Sources however confirmed that the two officers have been directed not to give any direction to their junior collegaues regarding the imminent elections.
After initial review of complaints submitted by political parties especially by the BJP, the Commission had replaced 13 District Magistrates and nine District Police Chiefs two days back. The EC has so far not taken any decision to shift DGP Javeed Ahmed and Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar and has only asked them to keep themselves away and refrain from issuing directives to their sub-ordinates.
Earlier social activist Nutan Thakur, who and her IPS husband Amitabh Thakur had bitter experiences in the present Samawadi Party regime, had written to the ECI and provided a list of officers ‘loyal’ to the SP government and sought their immediate transfer.
Thakur had also warned the EC that if a decision on their shifting for ensuring free and fair polls was not be taken by Monday, she would move High Court in this regard.
The activist’s list included around two dozen IAS and IPS officers posted in important places, who were allegedly working as Samajwadi Party agents. The list included Rahul Bhatnagar and Javeed Ahmed.
Meanwhile on Monday, DGP Javeed Ahmed released a hastag on the twitter handle of Uttar Pradesh Police so that complaints regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct could be sent to it. The police would then nitiate necessary action against the violators.
