The CBI gave a clean chit to Independent MlA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and four of his aides in the Kunda Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Zia-ul- Haq murder case and decided to close the cases.

The CBI submitted its report giving Raja Bhaiya and four others a clean chit in the special CBI court of Zeenat Mirza here. The agency also submitted a closure report against Raja Bhaiyya and several others. The others who have been given clean chit in the lie- detector tests are Rohit Singh, Gulshan Yadav, Hariom Srivastava and Guddu Singh. All the four are close associates of Raja Bhaiya. The agency also gave clean chit to some others in the case who were picked up for interrogation during the investigation.

CBI which took over the case on March 6 last took around six months to complete the probe. As per the report, the result of lie-detector test carried out on Raja Bhaiya for around 90 minutes in June is negative.  The test was carried out at the Central Forensic and Scientific laboratory in New Delhi on June 20 after the special court gave consent for the same.

The former minister had been questioned by the CBI on May 15 and 16 in connection with the murder and thereafter the agency sought for lie-detector test.   Raja Bhaiya, who was an accused in the FIR lodged filed by DSP Zia-ul Haq's widow Parveen Azad, was not named in the charge sheet filed by the CBI. However, the CBI had sought to conduct a lie-detector test on the former UP minister.

The DSP, who was killed by a mob on March 2 in Balipur village of Kunda in Pratapgarh district, had gone there to control the violence which erupted after the village pradhan Nanhe Yadav was shot dead. Brother of the pradhan, Suresh was also killed in the firing.
