Expressing concern over the dispute within judiciary, BSP chief Mayawati on Monday said that it would only weaken democracy if it was not sorted out soon.
Addressing media persons on her 62nd birthday in lucknow on Monday, Mayawati said, “Dispute within the judiciary is a matter of concern as it could weaken democracy”.
The BSP chief apprehended that the BJP government at the Centre could go for Parliamentary elections along with Assembly polls in eight states this year, but her party was prepared to take on any move of the BJP.
On the just concluded Gujarat Assembly Mayawati said, “ Prime Minister Narendra Modi could barely save himself from becoming homeless in Gujarat. The state has 18 to 20 per cent votes of Dalits. Had the community rallied against the Una and other Dalit atrocities, then the post poll scenario would have been different. No one could have saved PM Modi from being homeless in his native state.”
“I tell the Dalits to beware of Congress and its conspiracy which was hatched during Gujarat Assembly poll. Gujarat Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani is just a tool of the Congress,” she said.
Blaming the BJP and the Congress for miseries of Dalits and other backwards, the BSP leader compared her resignation from Rajya Sabha to that given by Dr BR Ambedkar as law minister in 1951.
“Dr Ambedkar was forced to resign by the Congress. Similarly this time I was forced to resign from Rajya Sabha as the BJP did not allow me to speak on Sabbirpur incident of Saharanpur. But fortunately, like Dr Ambedkar became a leader after his resignation, my party was supported byu masses in a big way in the just concluded civic polls. It proves that people have taken my resignation seriously,” she said.
Mayawati blamed the BJP for doctoring EVMs to win elections and said that it was the BSP which first lodged complaints with the Election Commission and Supreme Court on this issue.
“After the BSP compalint, the EC introduced VPAT in EVMs for some transparency. Why is the BJP shying away from holding poll using traditional ballot papers,” she said.
She also alleged that the BJP on the behest of the RSS was trying to dilute the Constitution and even weaken reservation policy in the country.
“The BJP leaders and ministers were giving statements regularly about making change in the Constitution which shows that some conspiracy has been hatched in this regard,” she alleged.
However, the BSP chief spared Samajwadi Party and did not even mention it once during the conference.
The former CM said that the Congress and the BJP were two sides of the same coin and both were conspiring against Dalits and backwards and making false promises.
“While Congress seeks Dalit votes by raking up threat on the Constitution, the BJP on the other hand, raise Dr Ambedkar’s photo to show that they were extremely concerned about the community.
“Both Congress and BJP were making all out efforts to wipe out the BSP, but they have failed to do so,” she said.
During the conference, Mayawati also released the 13th volume of her biograpgy — ‘A travelogue of my struggle-ridden life and BSP movement’.
The BSP celebrated the birthday of their leader as ‘ Peoples’ Welfare Day’ by organising different programmes throughout the state to help the poor and needy.
