DGP directs all the police chiefs to expedite all poll related work

To ensure peaceful parliamentary election in the state, Director General of Police, Rizwan Ahmed, has directed all district police chiefs and other officers concerned to constitute election cells and appoint nodal officers to expedite all poll related works.

Once the hyper sensitive and sensitive booths are identified, the state Government would send to the Centre its requirement of central para-military forces (CPMF) for assisting the local cops in maintaining law and order during the elections. “The directives have been issued by the DGP. The police chiefs have been asked to constitute election cell and appoint nodal officers, besides starting campaign against illicit liquor and arms, and keeping an eye on troublemakers,” IG (law and Order) Amrendra Singh Sengar told reporters here on Wednesday evening.

The district police chiefs have been asked to identify critical and vulnerable polling stations and to initiate appropriate measures. They have also been asked to identify places and make arrangements for the stay of para-military forces to be deployed during election.  “The process is on to identify sensitive and communally sensitive districts where more forces are to be deployed,” the IG (law and Order) said.

Asked about the number of communally-sensitive districts in the state, Sengar said the exact number was yet to be ascertained, but some districts in the Meerut zone lie under the category. Police have also been asked to work on shortcomings in the control room, he added.  It may be also mentioned here that Election Commission had already directed to transfer all the officials posted in one district for more than three years or in his home district so the DGP office is bust sorting out such cops so they could sent a compliance report in this regard to EC within the stipulated period of 15th February. Police Department is also procuring cameras to make recording of entire proceedings during elections to keep a check not just on violation of code of conduct but also to grill the anti-social elements, disturbing elections, in the court of law.
