With multi-layered security arrangements in place at the Banda District Jail where Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Mukhtar Ansari has been lodged after he was shifted from Punjab's Ropar jail, for the first time a director general rank officer, Anand Kumar, presently posted DG (Jails), is monitoring each and every moment in the Banda jail through a centrally-located control room at the Prison headquarters.
In an official tweet, a photograph showing Anand Kumar monitoring the activities in and outside Banda District Jail, including the Barrack No, 15 where gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari is lodged, through a video-wall at Jail Headquarter here, was shared on Thursday morning.
The officer had earlier also kept a tab on the activities in other prisons through the same wall but for the first time, the centrally located watch centre is being used to keep an eye on the activities of a particular gangster to ensure that he does not use his 'terror' or even 'greases' the palm of any jail official to enjoy luxury comfort inside the prison which he allegedly enjoyed during his earlier stay in the UP jails, including in Banda.
Meanwhile, Mukhtar had a sleepless night despite being tired due to a 14-hour-long journey from Ropar jail to Banda. Doctors from Banda medical college examined the MLA and did not find any health problems. The district administration and doctors are monitoring the MLA's health, according to the Prison Department.
Ansari has been lodged in Barrack number 15, which is equipped with CCTV cameras, and will be monitored round-the-clock from the prison headquarters in Lucknow. The government has made Banda City Magistrate Keshav Gupta in-charge of the prison. Singh will supervise the prison's administration and security and he will be assisted by two deputy jailers and warders.
Meanwhile, the police claimed to have received inputs about Ansari's associates arriving in the district and moving into rented accommodations. The police have decided to verify the identities of the tenants who have recently shifted to the city.
