Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Sunday, said that now the jails of Uttar Pradesh were no more the centres of fun for the criminals, rather they were reform homes for prisoners.

He said this while dedicating and laying the foundation stones of 122 development projects costing Rs 245 crore. They included the building of a district prison built at a cost of Rs 126 crore in Sant Kabir Nagar district on Sunday.

“We have converted the jails of the state into reform homes where the criminals are being given an opportunity to reform. The jails of UP are no longer places of fun for the criminals. There was a time when the power used to be a slave of the mafia, today the bulldozer of our government runs on their houses,” the chief minister said.

Speaking at the event, Yogi Adityanath said, “Our message to the mafia is very clear. If the mafia will make the life of the poor, farmer, trader hell, then our government will not let this happen in any case”.

Expressing satisfaction over the newly-constructed district jail in Sant Kabir Nagar, the chief minister said that now the prisoners would not have to be sent to Basti district and this prison would become a model prison in the form of a reform home.

Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, the chief minister said that under the previous governments, dynasticism, nepotism, appeasement, dacoity, hooliganism and riots had become the identity of the state.

“The jobs of the youth were auctioned and the morsels of the poor were robbed. Jobs were earlier mortgaged. If anyone tries to auction the job today, we will get their house auctioned,” he added.

Yogi Adityanath further said that the government had given over 4.5 lakh government jobs to the youth on the basis of their merit, with complete transparency. He said that around 90,000 more government jobs were coming up in UP.

The chief minister reiterated that youths preparing for various competitions would get a competitive examination allowance in the state. Also, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to distribute tablets along with digital access to youth of the state, he added.

The chief minister said that the emphasis of his government was to ensure the safety, dignity and self-reliance of women in Uttar Pradesh. He said the recruitment of 30,000 women policemen was an important step in this direction. He said in the interest of women, the government was continuously taking forward several schemes like Mission Shakti, Kanya Sumangala and destitute women pension.

Yogi Adityanath also presented tailoring toolkits to five women under Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana at the function. Referring to this in his address, he said that this toolkit could become a self-employment platform for women following the mantra of Vocal for Local as per the intention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The chief minister said, “Once Khalilabad in this district used to be a big centre of looms and handlooms. In such a situation, why can't it become a hub of readymade garments? If we link women with the market by giving them modern sewing machines, then every house will start making readymade garments. In such a situation, we can even overtake Bangladesh and Vietnam in terms of production of readymade garments.”

The chief minister also prominently mentioned the utensils industry of Bakhira in Sant Kabir Nagar district.

“It was forgotten in the previous governments but we are working towards making Bakhira's utensils industry recognised on the global stage. It will become a major source of employment for the youth and women at the local level,” he said.

The chief minister once again said that a medical college would be established in Sant Kabir Nagar on public-private participation (PPP) model.

Expressing concern over the flood situation in Sant Kabir Nagar, the chief minister said that the government was providing relief kits in sufficient quantities to every victim. He said adequate availability of anti-snake venom and anti-rabies vaccine had been ensured in the flood affected areas. He appealed to the public representatives to ensure that relief material reached every flood victim.

The chief minister said that now Sant Kabir Nagar would not lag behind any district on the scale of development. He said that this land of Baba Tameshwarnath and great Sufi saint Sant Kabir was in the hope of development.

“Earlier, political announcements were made for development but they were not implemented. But in the last four-and-a-half years there has been a change. Today, this programme involving development projects worth Rs 245 crore shows that this district will now touch new paradigms of development.  Development is the need of the people and only this will pave the way for the welfare of every person,” he said.

During the function, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also distributed honorarium acceptance letters to the beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana, Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana and Shaadi Anudan Yojana and caretakers of self-help groups who manage the cleanliness of community toilets. He also provided appointment letters to the dependents of government employees who died of COVID 19. On this occasion, the chief minister also handed over the keys to the beneficiaries of the submission of the agriculture mechanisation scheme.

Minister for Prison Jaikumar Singh ‘Jackie’, Minister for Horticulture and Agriculture Marketing Shri Ram Chauhan, Stamp Registration Minister Ravindra Jaiswal, MP Praveen Nishad, MLA Rakesh Singh Baghel, Digvijay Narayan Choubey, Dayaram Chaudhary etc. were also present in the function.
