Deputy jailor attacked in Etawah, escapes unhurt

Deputy Jailor of Etawah District Jail escaped unhurt when some criminals opened fire on him near the jail premises in the wee hours of Saturday.

SSP of Etawah, Dr Brajesh Kumar Singh, while confirming the incident said that Etawah District Jail’s Deputy Jailor SH Jafri was attacked when he was on jail inspection.

“Some unknown people opened fire on him and fled,” Singh said.

The deputy jailor was going from his residence at around 3:30 pm to inspect the jail premises.  During this time, some people surrounded him on the way and opened fire and fled after threatening to kill him. The deputy jailer said that the miscreants fired several rounds and later they fled.

Jail Superintendent Raj Kishore Singh said that the attack on the deputy jailer must have been made by a miscreant who was lodged in the jail and it was being investigated.

Deputy Jailor SH Jafri was also attacked by a miscreant at his residence about two years ago. Even then too, the miscreant had run away while firing at him.

Inspector Brijesh, in-charge of local Civil Lines police station, said that he inspected the spot on getting information about the firing. He said the matter was being investigated, adding that there was a PAC camp at the place where the incident reportedly took place.

The gate security guard of the jail was also deployed.

SSP Dr Brijesh Kumar Singh also inspected the spot and talked to the deputy jailor. He said that a case would be registered against unknown miscreants on the complaint of the deputy jailor.

Four police teams have been formed to nab those who attacked the jailor.

Meanwhile a man was arrested in Bahraich for allegedly killing his wife and parents-in-law with a sharp-edged weapon earlier this week, police said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Mubarak Ali, a resident of Banjaria village under Hardi police station of Bahraich. He was arrested on Friday, the police said.

Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh said Ali was living with his in-laws in Bhikabaandh village in Bihar's Siwan district. According to the Bihar Police, he killed his wife Naseema Khatoon (30), father-in-law Ali Hussain Sai (75) and mother-in-law Najma Khatoon (70) on the intervening night of August 15 and 16 with a sharp-edged weapon.

Ali's nine-year-old daughter was also injured in the incident, the SP said, adding that a case had been registered at Daraunda police station in Siwan and the Bihar Police had taken the accused to Siwan on transit remand.
