Two days after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav revoked suspension of 2010 batch IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, the state government has decided to close the departmental inquiry against the woman officer.
A highly placed Government official said here on Tuesday that as suspension of the IAS officer was revoked the departmental enquiry was meaningless. Nagpal was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for taking on the powerful sand mining mafia when she was the SDM of Gautambudh Nagar. A departmental enquiry was ordered and the probe was conducted by Principal Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava. Srivastava was asked to submit report within 15 days.
She was also served a charge sheet running into 10 pages, on a report of Commissioner (Meerut Division) alleging that the IAS officer had not adhered to the rules while demolishing a mosque wall to which she had later submitted her reply.
The government had revoked the suspension of Nagpal on September 22, the day after she met Chief Minister along with her husband Abhishek Singh, who also happens to be an IAS officer. She clarified her position before the CM.
"I was satisfied with the explanation given by suspended SDM. So the Government decided to revoke her suspension. AS far as we are concerned the matter is closed," Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister had said she was suspended for arbitrarily ordering the demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village. "Her action threatened to destroy communal peace," Akhilesh had said. The suspension had triggered a public outcry. Opposition parties also targeted the UP government over the issue.
