At a time when political patronage, corruption and the right connections in the state gets a lower rung cop the charge of a police station, the SP of Deoria has tried to set an example by posting officers after a written test.
If the experiment is successfully implemented, then this will prove to be a milestone for the UP Police to give efficient officers their `due’ and improve the deteriorating image of the Khakhi in the minds of common man.
To improve policing and lauding the efficient cops of his district, SP of Deoria, Prabhakar Choudhary adopted the unique way which no other police captain in the state had even given a thought to especially in the present regime.
Choudhary envisaged holding of written examination for Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors willing to head a police station. The test had to be taken by even those who are holding charge presently. Even the lower rung constabulary have been given a thought by the police captain and motiovated to prove their worth in the examination to get postings of their choice.
Sources confirmed that Choudhary himself set a question paper containing 26 questions which had to be answered in 50 minutes time.
Choudhary said that he wanted to test the cops parameters of IQ level, practical approach in handling adverse situations and knowledge of departmental work like investigation etc.
The result of the examination, which was taken by a total of 87 cops including Inspectors and Sub-inspectors, is still awaited.
To ensure fair examination held at the Reserve Police lines in Deoria, the SP posted a host of officers including Circle Officer (Police lines) Ajay Kumar Singh, Deputy SP Susheel Kumar Singh, Inspector lIU Santosh Kumar Singh, Reader to SP, Ashok Pandey, PRO Jawahwar Gupta etc in the new avatar of 'invigilators'.
Sources said that the in-charges of 18 police stations posted in Deoria also appeared in the examination and they run the risk of losing their present posting if they fail to clear the cut-off marks.
Talking to `The Pioneer’ over telephone, Choudhary said that a merit list, as per the numbers secured by the cops in the examination, will be prepared and those perfoming well will be given preference in posting.
