Death of infants and children raked up in Gorakhpur

Published on:

Death of infants and children is almost certain to be raked up when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi reaches Gorakhpur to meet the family of the deceased and visit BRD Medical College on Saturday.

Interestingly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whose resignation has been already demanded by Congress and other parties, will also be also in the district to launch a cleaniness drive on Saturday.

Barely a day back, state Congress president Raj Babbar had claimed that they would fight till Yogi owned the responsibility of the deaths and resign from his post.

Sources said that Congress has decided to continue raising the issue to corner the BJP governments both at the Centre as well as in UP and also aim to pin down Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath whiule attempts to makle an entry into either House of the UP legislature in the near future.

“We do not want to make deaths of children in Gorakhpur an election issue during bi-election for Gorakhpur and Phoolpur Parliamentary seats. While Yogi represented the former, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya was MP from the latter. But since Yogi in neither issuing any apology nor tendering his resignation, we will definitely expose his failure in the by-polls,” said a senior Congress leader from Gorakhpur.

The leader claimed that 100 volunteers of Congress Sewa Dal have reached Gorakhpur to carry out a cleaniness drive while party MlAs and MPs will contribute and hand over 10 ambulances to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.

“After AICC general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad, state chief Raj Babbar and other leaders, now Rahul Gandhi will reach Gorakhpur on Saturdaymorning. Rahul will first vist BRD Medical College Hospital and meet families of the young deceased. He will also interact with hospital authorities to know the steps taken to avert such incidence in future,” the Congress leader said.

Rahul is set to have several things to attack the Yogi government as the death toll in BRD hospital since August 7 has reached an ominous 71 due to various causes including Encephalitis. Some deaths were allegedly due to shortage of oxygen, a claim dismissed by the state government so far.

Yogi is also set to visit Gorakhpur on Saturday and will launch the week-long ‘Swacchata Abhiyan’ in the city which will start from Andhayari Bagh locality.
