Close on heels of the custodial death at Hassanganj police station (lucknow), Indirapuram (Ghaziabad) and Ghazipur districts, another case of cutodial death of a widow was reported from Pratapgarh. A case in this regard was registered against seven cops and three others on Friday.
SP of Pratapgarh later placed all seven cops under suspension.As per reports, Hema - a widow residing in Raniganj area had a scuffle with an elderly neighbour some days back.
The police subsequently picked up the woman on Thursday night and allegedly bashed her up after which her condition became critical. She was later pronounced dead during treatment at a hospital.
The victim's father later approached the police to lodge a case but he was shooed away. The distraught man later contacted the SP after which a case was registered against seven cops and three civilians under Section 145/147/304/ 323/ 504 and 506 of the IPC on Friday morning.
The SP ordered the suspension of SO of Raniganj, Santosh Kumar Tiwari, sub-inspector Rajendra Singh, and five cops - including a woman cop. The SP said that if the autopsy report confirmed that the woman died of torture then the named cops will be arrested in the matter.
Meanwhile a case of honour killing was reported from Bahraich on Friday morning. As per reports, Awadesh Mishra (22) of Behada area of Khairaghat was having relations with a female neighbour. The matter took an ugly turn when the girl became pregnant and her brother Atul Sharma came to know of the liaison.
On Friday morning, Atul along with his friends Ashok Kumar and Dhruv Kumar intercepted Awadesh Mishra, assaulted him before choppingd off his head. The killers sped off with the severed head and dropped it a kilometer away from the scene of crime. Some locals saw the head and informed the police. The cops subsequently arrested the three culprits. later a case was registered against them and the body was sent for autopsy.
