With a view to ensuring that people in rural areas can register for vaccination, the Uttar Pradesh government said that common service centres (CSCs) will be made available to villagers across the state.
“This has been brought to our notice that villagers are facing problems in registering for the vaccination on the CoWin portal and therefore, it has decided that CSCs would work in all the villages and extend registration facilities to people free of cost,” a government spokesman said on Thursday.
Earlier, The Pioneer had on May 18 carried a news report headlined ‘Vaccination: Digital divide leaves villagers reeling’, highlighting the problems that the villagers were facing in registering for the vaccination.
The villagers complained that they failed to register because of poor internet connectivity. They also said that all the CSCs were closed because of a lockdown, hampering the registration process.
The government spokesman said that there are around 93,000 CSCs in 75 districts and once this facility is made available to the villagers, it will speed up the registration process. “The government will also advertise on a large scale in rural areas so that people are able to know about this facility,” he said.
