Having no fear of the law-enforcing agencies, the criminals who brutally attacked two cops in Kasganj on Tuesday evening claiming the life of one leaving the other badly injured, once again threw an open challenge to the cops by opening fire on them.
However, this time the police retaliated and managed to exact revenge for their colleague who died on Tuesday. The cops managed to gun down an accused, said to be the brother of the kingpin of a liquor mafia gang. The encounter took place in the early hours of Wednesday.
“Elkar and others were surrounded by a police team on the banks of Kali river and in the exchange of fire, he was injured. He was taken to a CHC in Sidhpur where he succumbed,” SP, Kasganj, Manoj Sonkar said.
Police said that the deceased criminal, who was among the people alleged for killing the policeman, was identified as Elkar Dhimar, younger brother of prime accused Moti Dhimar, who is on the run and 11 criminal cases are pending against him.
The deceased was also a listed criminal and a history-sheeter in the local police station. Sonkar said Elkar’s accomplices managed to escape during the encounter and a manhunt had been launched for them.
On Tuesday, sub-inspector Ashok Kumar and constable Devendra, following receipt of information related to illicit liquor manufacturing, raided Nagla village under Sirhpura police station. The liquor mafia and their goons caught hold of policemen and lynched them. While constable Devendra died at the hospital in Aligarh, sub-inspector Ashok was battling for his life.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a serious note of the incident and ordered that cases be registered under NSA against the criminals. The CM also announced Rs 50 lakh as compensation and government job to the kin of the deceased police constable.
