Even as the lucknow Police grapples to establish that the two arrested rickshaw pullers had kidnapped, raped and brutally murdered a class XII girl whose body was found near DGP office, heinous crimes against the fairer sex remained unabated across the state in the last 24 hours.
Since Monday, a minor girl was shot dead for objecting to sexual harassment in Sitapur, a 30-year-old woman was burnt alive after being raped in Kanpur and a woman was raped by a gas agency owner in Ballia.
In Sitapur, Kuldeep of Shivpuri area of Kotwali, was harassing a 15-year-old girl neighbour for quite some time. Despite the girl’s objections when the accused did not refrain from his misconduct, she told her family. Subsequently an FIR with the local police was registsred. Instead of taking stern action, the cops called both parties and forced them write out a truce.
The move boomeranged as it emboldened the miscreant. While the victim was returning home with her elder sister on Monday night, Kuldeep and his aide Pujari, intercepted them and started making lewd advances. When the girls objected and threatened to report to the police, Kuldeep whipped out a country made revolver and fired at the younger sister critically injuring her. later the miscreants fled the spot on a motorcycle. The victim was rushed to the District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. After a severe dressing down from top officers, the local police got into the act and claimed to have arrested both accused on Tuesday afternoon. A sub-inspector of the beat was suspended laxity and forcing the victim’s family to compromise. The police is trying to arrest another accused lokesh who was also present with the two accused at the time of the crime.
Meanwhile in Kanpur, a 30-year-old woman died after being raped and burnt alive by her neighbour on Monday evening. The victim was alone at home in Gopalpur hamlet of Panki, when Braj Kishore raped her and then set her afire causing serious burns. Her neighbours rushed her to Hylett Hospital where she succumbed later in the night. The victim’s husband Zulfiqar later rushed home on being informed. The family alleged that police was initially reluctant to lodge an FIR, but after they complained to SSP, Shailabh Mathur, a case of rape and murder was registered against the accused who is absconding.
In Ballia, a 30-year-old woman was raped by a gas agency owner in Kotwali area. Agency owner Sanjay Rai called the victim last Saturday evening on the pretext of providing an lPG cylinder and later forced himself upon her. The victim shared her ordeal with her family after which a case was registered on Monday. The victim was medically examined and a report was awaited. The police was investigating the matter.
