CPI (ML) demands roll back of hike in cooking gas price

The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) demanded roll back of the Rs 50 hike in the price of domestic cooking gas and said the government had failed to tackle inflation.

In a statement, CPI (ML) state secretary Sudhakar Yadav said the government was “looting” money from the public by hiking the prices of cooking gas and other commodities in the name of crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

“The cooking gas was already expensive and the government has announced a fresh hike of Rs 50 per cylinder. The way inflation is rising, it has become a cause of concern. The government should control the prices and roll back the hike on cooking gas,” he said.

Yadav said the government was not lowering taxes and was shifting the economic burden on the common man who was already reeling under the pressure of inflation.

“Whenever there is a crisis, the capitalists become rich and the common man poorer as had happened in COVID-19 times. The oil manufacturing companies are getting richer. The prime minister passes the buck on the state government and the state governments pass the buck on the Union government. In both situations, it is the public which is trapped in the inflation,” he commented.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Communist Party of India state secretary Dr Girish said women and girls were unsafe in the Yogi Adityanath government.

Girish said the Uttar Pradesh government claimed to be taking action against the miscreants but there was no let-up in the cases of crime.

“During the last 48 hours, a minor was raped in Lakhimpur Kheri, a woman was killed in a hotel in Aligarh and a woman was hacked to death near a police outpost in Mathura. These are a few instances that expose the government’s claim on law and order,” the CPI leader said and added that the party would raise the issue very soon.
