Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan alleged that cows were being airlifted from India to Islamic country of Qatar for slaughter. He said that instead of Qatar, the cows should be exported to Sri lanka and Nepal.
“If the NDA government can export cows to Qatar for slaughter, then the same thing could be done by local butchers and slaughter houses,’’ Khan said in a statement released in Rampur on Friday.
“On mere suspension, poor farmers and cattle traders were being targeted by cow vigilantes and even killed. Yet the Saffron brigade is maintaining conspicuous silence over the export of cows to Qatar. Qatar is an Islamic nation and I demand from the NDA government that the cows be exported to Sri lanka and Nepal,’’ said the SP leader.
“If the government favours cow slaughter then they could have this within the country. Why did the government have to adopt a longer route by exporting cows to an Islamic county,’’ Khan sought to know.
When Khan’s PRO Fasahat Shanu’s attention was drawn towards the fact that a Qatari businessman contracted with an Australian firm for import of 4,000 cows to be airlifted to the Arab nation and that there was no such business deal either with government agency or private firm of India, he said, “Its our definite information that the Union government has assured the Qatari government to export cows.’’
A Qatari businessman Moutaz Al Khayyat, is planning to airlift 4,000 Holstein dairy cows into the country as part of efforts to maintain milk supplies to cope with the crisis arising out of economic sanctions imposed by Saudi Arab and three other Arab nations on Qatar. It would take as many as 60 flights to deliver the cattle which are being imported from Australia and the USA.
