The third wave of COVID-19 seems to be on the ebb as 6,626 fresh novel coronavirus positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours while 6,946 people recovered from infection during the same period.
Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said that 1,80,978 samples were tested in a single day of which 6,626 were positive for coronavirus infection.
“After recovery of 6,946 people in the last 24 hours, there are 54,836 active cases in the state out of which 52,657 are in home isolation,” he said.
Prasad said that the Covid positivity rate was declining in the state and the infection rate had come down from 7.78 per cent to 3.86 per cent.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh crossed the 26 crore vaccine doses milestone on Monday with protection cover being given to 66.8 per cent of children in the age group of 15-18.
“Strengthening its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh has also administered over 13.03 lakh precautionary doses to healthcare and frontline workers, and those above 60 years of age,” Prasad said.
The additional chief secretary said in view of the participation of people in the upcoming assembly elections, the vaccination drive had been intensified in the state.
“Over one crore vaccine doses have been administered within a span of a week,” he said and added that in order to ensure a 'Covid-safe' election, the government was relying on enhanced vaccination, considering which the chief minister had ordered 100 per cent vaccination in all the districts in a phased manner.
“Everyone must get their Covid vaccine done. Those who have taken their first dose must take the second dose when the time comes. The novel coronavirus outbreak is not completely over yet. Therefore, everyone should follow Covid appropriate behaviour,” he said.
Prasad said that vaccination is being done continuously. “On January 30, at least 12,50,275 vaccine doses were given in a day. Till Sunday, 14,70,45,190 people were given the first dose which is 99.74 per cent of the targeted population,” he said.
