Court issue summon to Mulayam

Taking suo motu cognisance of remarks of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav on gang rape, a local court in Mahoba issued summon to the former chief minister on Friday, directing him to appear before the Court on September 16.

According to reports, the Judicial Magistrate (junior division) of Kulpahar teshil in Mahoba, Ankit Goel, reportedly took cognizance of media reports and issued the summons under Section 190 of the Cr PC to Mulayam Singh Yadav. The court has registered a case under section 504,505,509, 116 of the IPC and Section 3 and 4 of the Public Order Act of 1986.

It may be mentioned that Yadav during a function in the state capital  on Tuesday had reportedly said that often if one person commits rape, four people are named in the complaint. Four people are named for rape, can it be possibleIJ It is not practical. They probably say one was watching...Another was there... If there are four brothers, then all four are named.

However, Samajwadi Party had on Thursday clarified that Yadav’s statement was distorted by the media. In a statement, SP spokesman, Rajendra Chaudhary said the remark clearly meant that innocent person should not be made an accused in a rape case. “The remark of the SP supremo was presented in a manner by some elements as if an attempt was being made to shield a culprit, which is totally wrong. Some people are presenting SP chief’s remark out of context,” he added. Yadav has always advocated equality between men and women, he said.
