Stressing on UPA’s faulty economic policies BJP national president Rajnath Singh said that country was passing through serious economic crisis which has resulted in devaluation of rupee.
"When the rupee is devalued as compared to dollar there should an increase in export but it is the import which has increased in last couple of months. The Government record shows that difference between export and import in the country is of two lakh dollars. In this scenario the devaluation will continue further," Singh said while addressing a function of traders held here on Friday. He said that the BJP had earlier predicted devaluation of rupee and we believe it (rupee) will touch 70 mark as compared to dollar in coming weeks because the Union
Government does not have the will to arrest the downfall."Where the country is today it is because of the faulty policies of the Congress-led UPA Government. The prices of essential commodities have gone up. The prices of petro products are rising on weekly basis and our economist Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is silent while the Finance Minister says situation will improve. But when, no one has the answer," Singh said.
Realising it was a huge gathering of traders BJP national president said that the present union government brand you (traders) people as tax evaders whereas it is a fact that trading community has helped in building India as a strong nation. "Where India is today it is because of you people only," he said and declared that BJP will not allow FDI in retail sector as it will lead to disparity in income. The BJP will fight for the pride of traders.
Comparing UPA regime with NDA Singh said that the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpai had taken steps that helped in regulating fiscal deficit. The GDP at that time was 8.4 and India was in position to strike business deal with any country. "Now, India is forced to sign on the dotted lines because of our crumbling economic situation," he said.
He also criticised the UP Government for its failure to control crime and start development schemes. The government talks about inviting private investments. How will it come when state does not have electricity and law and order situation is bad," he said. BJP state president Dr laxmi Kant Bajpai also spoke on this occasion.
