Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the country was passing through a difficult period as the ruling BJP was aggressively pursuing a divisive agenda on the lines of caste and religion.

Addressing a meeting of lawyers at the state SP office on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s first President Dr Rajendra Prasad, Akhilesh expressed concern over the situation in Kashmir.

“The people of Kashmir have beenc facing lockdown for the last four months, yet the BJP is presenting the abrogation of Article 370 as one of its achievements in the campaign for Jharkhand Assembly elections,” he said.

Targeting the Yogi Adityanath government, the former Chief Minister said the the BJP government had failed in discharging its basic duties. He said that despite announcements by the Chief Minister, sweaters had not been distributed among children of state-run primary schools and one litre of milk was being distributed among 81 children in mid-day meal.

“In one school, salt and roti was being served to children while the journalist who reported the matter was sent behind the bars,” the SP chief alleged.

Akhilesh said that against the tall claims of eradicating poverty by the BJP regime, the economy has collapsed. “Business establishments are closing down due to slowdown in economy while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet colleagues remain in denial mode and are hiding the data on different sectors of economy like unemployment and job losses,” he said.

Referring to the statement of industrialist Rahul Bajaj, the SP chief said: “There is an ominous atmosphere in the country and it will go only after that person is dislodged from power who created the fear psychosis.’’
