Council election counting today

Published on:

Counting of votes to decide the fate of 199 candidates contesting for the 11 seats of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from graduate and teachers seats would be taken up from Thursday morning.

An estimated 55.47 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the polling for these 11 Council seats on Tuesday.

Election Commission sources here said on Wednesday that all preparations for the smooth conduct of counting of votes had been made and elaborate security would be in place in and around the counting centres.

The counting will commence at 8 am on Thursday and will continue till the results are declared. The voting has been done on ballot papers and there is a preferential voting system, hence the counting will take more time than the counting of the votes polled in electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The 11 seats where the biennial polls were held are Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division, Meerut division and Allahabad-Jhansi division (all graduate constituencies) and Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division, Meerut division, Bareilly-Moradabad division and Gorakhpur-Faizabad division (all teachers constituencies).
