To ensure the availability of local police officials round the clock, the state government issued strict directions for all police station in-charges and circle officers to camp at night in their respective areas of posting.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi on Wednesday asked DGP Mukul Goel to ensure that all station in-charges and COs of the state stayed at their places of posting and if they had not got government accommodation, they should stay on rent.
Earlier, Yogi had instructed all SDMs, station house officers and other police officers to stay overnight in their workplaces.
Awasthi communicated to the DGP that it had come to the notice of the government that the SHO/SOs and COs did not reside in their deployment area and travelled from other places.
"Due to this, where time is wasted and in case of emergency, immediate action is not taken. Not only this, common people have to face problems due to the absence of officials," he said.
Awasthi directed that all SHO/SOs and COs should be directed to stay at station headquarters or circle headquarters only. "If they don't have government accommodation then stay in a rented house," he said.
The top officials further said that in a week, the government should be apprised whether the officials had started staying at their places of respective postings and if not, then what action was being taken against them.
He warned that if anyone was found missing without permission, stern action would follow against those officials.
